Hierve el Agua, Mitla, Tule & Mezcal

Take this amazing tour and explore the petrified waterfall of Hierve el Agua and the majestic nature surrounding it. Also, see a gigantic 2,000 year-old tree in Tule and then gaze at the beautiful stone carvings at the Zapotec ruins of Mitla. Round off the tour visiting a Mezkal factory and learn how this popular Mexican drink is made.
Itinerary

We will pick you up from your hostel in the morning and we will drive you 30 minutes to Tule, where you will be amazed by this gigantic tree. Then we drive you another 15 minutes to Mitla where we will enter a complex of ruins that boast beautiful stone carvings. On the way to Hierve el Agua we will make a quick stop Teotitlan del Valle to see how rugs are made. At the Hierve el Agua, you will spend a few hours before we make our way to the Mezkal factory. After learning a few things about Mezkal we will head back to Merida and drop you off at your hostel.

Monte Alban and Indigenous Villages

Monte Albán.
Only 8 kilometers from Oaxaca City, Monte Albán was founded around 500 AD by people fro the nearby Valley towns. It was capital of the Zapotecs, and one of the first cities of Mesoamerica being very populated during its peak. It flourished until 750 AD, reaching its peak around 600 AD. Located in the center of the Valley of Oaxaca Monet Albán held political, economic, and ideological control over other communities around the Valley and surrounding mountains. It boasted more than 25,000 inhabitants.

Itinerary

Arrazola.Here artisans use wood from the copal tree to create fantastic, imaginary animal figures, known as alebrijes, which are exhibited in the artisans´ houses and in various shops in oaxaca city. 

Cuilapan. 12 kilometers from oaxaca City on the highway towards Zaachila, this unfinished but marvelous religious complex, constructed by Dominicans in the 16th century.   It consists of the ex-convent, a church and chapel with a basilica type floor plan. Its name in Nahuatl means dyed river or rattles over waters, it was formerly called Coyolapan. 

Atzompa. This town is just 8 kilomters from Oaxaca city. An ideal place to see how the beautiful terracotta and green-glazed items are made. The pots are made following ancient, ancestral techniques. 

Coyotepec. It is located12 kilometers along Federal Highway 175. Its main attraction is the black pottery made by local artisans, who produce extraordinary beautiful items using openwork and polishing techniques. These articles can be bought in the handicraft market or in the houses of the craftsmen themselves. We´ll visit Doña Rosa´s workshop to see the process of making black pottery.
